Since I've had a few people ask for a simple, easy and crispy tofu recipe, here you go!
Ingredients:
14oz Block of Extra Firm Tofu
1/4-1/3c Cornstarch
2t Salt
2t White Pepper
2t Garlic Powder
1t Paprika
3T Vegetable Oil
Directions:
1. Remove tofu from packaging
2. Drain tofu
3. Prepare a baking sheet with paper towel, to press the tofu. I suggest using two to three layers of paper towel on the bottom
4. Cut the tofu in half lengthwise, then cut each half lengthwise
5. Cut the tofu strips crosswise, into 1" cubes
6. Lay tofu squares on prepared baking sheet in a single layer
7. Cover with one layer of paper towel
8. Place another baking sheet over top, weighted with a heavy cookbook - you want to press as much water from the tofu as possible. Let press for a minimum of 30 minutes
9. Meanwhile, in gallon Ziploc bag, mix cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika
10. Heat vegetable oil in large skillet over medium heat
11. When tofu is done pressing, add to Ziploc bag, seal, and shake
12. When oil is hot, add tofu to pan - if you don't have a large pan, do this in batches, as to not overcrowd the pan
13. Fry over medium high, 3-5 minutes per side, until golden brown
14. Drain on paper towel
This tofu can be eaten alone (I love preparing this tofu and dipping it in Angelo Pietro Sesame Miso Dressing - linked here) or adding to any salad for protein!
